Poetic Spotlight: January 31st, 2009

This weeks poetic spotlight features two beautiful pieces. The first is from a new poet whom I adore. He goes by the pen name of Aardaerimus. Known for his beautiful music and his wonderful knack for seeing things perfectly behind the lens of the camera, he occasionally provides us with his written gems.

The second piece is prose from an amazing lady and wonderful writer who is known well in many of the circles that I travel. Her name is Lauren Axelrod.

I admire both of these writers tremendously and consider them both friends. I am very pleased to be recommending their work this week.

A Kiss Beneath the Mountain by Aardaerimus is a wonderful account of the blooming of a new love in the cold of winter and I found it playful and simply beautiful.

Don't Fear to Tread by Lauren Axelrod is a deep and wonderful portrayal of perhaps... the secrets of life.

These are two pieces that are not to be missed. Check them out. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!

This week's votes from me:

A Kiss Beneath the Mountain by Aardaerimus 5 out of 5
Don't Fear to Tread by Lauren Axelrod 5 out of 5

A Rough Week and a Lemonade Award: Thanks Icy!

It has been a crazy couple of weeks for me. I went back to work and two days later the company lost the contract that myself and 38 others were hired for, so they let us all go again. Then someone in my house didn't use the money that I paid them for the bills to pay the bills and I went without water for 4 days. In order to get the water turned on, I paid the bill again out of my pocket! Then... on Friday, I had a fender bender and now my car is parked in the driveway and in need of repair... such craziness! It really makes me wonder what I did to deserve such rotten karma. If it's true that things really happen in threes then I guess that I am safe for awhile. We shall see.

In the midst of all this craziness I received an award which I totally lost track of posting on! I was so suprised to find the comments today from Icy at Waveweaver who has been kind enough to give me a Lemonade Award! It makes me feel better to know that I am appreciated and loved.

I feel so bad to have forgotten this lovely gesture. Icy, I hope that you can forgive me.

Like Icy's today.com blog, my Poetic Expression blog is very new to the community and to receive this award is an honor! I'd like to extend a gracious thank you to my friend, Icy.

In keeping with the spirit, I would like to pass this Lemonade Award on to a few of my favorite blogs and bloggers:
  1. Icy for Reach Beyond Limits
  2. Lauren for Friends Revolution
  3. Chato B Stewart for Mental Health Humor
  4. Eric Strom for Eric Strom's Daily Song
  5. Lanne for The Things that Women Do

These are all I have for now! Take a look at these blogs, and you will see why I nominated them for the award. Now it's your turn to pass this award on to 10 other bloggers or blogs that you like.

Congratulations!

-M

Update: Maybe my luck IS changing. I just got a call and I go back to work on Friday! Yay me!

Perfect Unison

The lyrics of your soul
Pouring onto white parchment
Black ink covering
Melding with a soft
And sensual melody
Engulf my senses
Overflow my heart
With enlightenment
And run over once more--
Filling my soul
With wonderous dreams
Of alluring new chapters-- penned
Into the fragmentary novel
That conveys my life

Dare I dream?
Dare I speculate?
Dare I lower my defenses
For one final casting of the die?

As I lay in slumber
Upon my pillow tonight
This melody echoes through me
Your lyrics, your voice
In perfect unison
With the rhythm of my heart

Should it ever cease in wake of morn
One word shall whisper
Through my parted lips...

~ Encore ~

Enjoy Each Moment

Hollow body
Filled with nothingness
Just a little air
Pluck my strings
Inspiring melody
Pulled from my despair

Stricken with ache
Her gentle hands
Will no longer play
I miss those moments
By far the most
Every single day

Loneliness
She never holds me
Her favorite by far
Against the wall
I lean alone
Her lonely old guitar

Enjoy each moment
Remember them well
There may come a day
When your most
Beloved friend
Can no longer play

Sadness will creep
Into your soul
And then into your heart
Take it from me
Just one more weeping
Lonely old guitar...

Poetic Spotlight

As I was going through my reading list today, I came across an excellent piece of prose that I would like to share for this week's Poetic Spotlight. This piece was written by Reilley , a poet that I have been following for some time now. To be honest, some of this man's poetry has brought me to tears.  "Forty Years On'" a gentle and romantic read with a contemporary feel, tells the story of forty years later.

My favorite part:

"Her charcoal hair was now diamond
But the emerald of her eyes
Had never changed."

I won't give away the whole poem, you'll have to read it to learn more. But I believe it's well worth a read.

Forty Years On a 5 out of 5.

The second piece on today's spotlight is by Liane SchmidtWhere the Streets are Paved Divine is just short of a trip to the candy store. I was taken aback by it's amazing imagery and depth of emotion.  It is a divine romantic and angelic inspirational piece with an interesting use of form, in prose.

Whisperings of Remembrance

Windmills of bright colour,
Turn the wheels of my mind.
I think of days of splendor,
Days of incredible happiness,
Of hearts full of love,
Of joy unbounded.

Whisperings of remembrance fill my days,
The sounds in my ears
Are only of another time,
A time when two hearts were intertwined,
When two minds collided to become one.

A roomful of people,
Who could only be heard in the background,
While the wheels of our minds turned together,
And the breeze gently cooled the fire within our hearts.
They heard the soft whispers, but could not understand.
They saw the concept, but could not read the vision,
For we did not let them in.

Then the pain overshadowed us,
Like a blanket of snow,
Upon a tiny ember.
The pain of a distance,
Not of the heart or mind,
But of miles, across the land.

I would've come to you,
Had I been able,
I would've given you all,
If I had it to give.

Whisperings of remembrance fill my days,
With a melancholy heart I see the past,
And hope for the future,
A future that may never come.
But I cannot block the echoes,
The sound of you from my ears,
My thoughts,
My heart.

And I am lonely,
For without you,
I am but one again,
And a part of my soul has been replaced,
By a whisper of hope,
A remembrance,
A dream.

From a Tiny Speck of Dust

Conveyance of one's heart
In poetic interlude
Requires a bit of skill
It's not a simple thing to do

To build a mighty forest
From a tiny speck of dust
Thesaurus in one's hand
Parchment, quill and ink a must

At first to sketch the framework
With the artist's mighty pen
Then ambiance and color
Softly wander in

Throughout the toil and trouble
Stroking with Thesaurian brush
Springs forth from desolation
Forest fashioned emerald, lush

So therefore inspired comrades
Arm thyself with tools of trade
Contemplate poetic form
Peruse a classic once per day

Compile your toolbox wisely
Furnish it with skills inside
Your work will rise much higher
From the aptitude you'll find

For it requires more than talent
And an artist's loving touch
To build a mighty forest
From a tiny speck of dust

Past Indecision

Indecision of the past,
Etched into a stone's age,
Fades love's fragile beauty,
Into the arms of obscurity.

The Star

original artwork by author

One evening as I looked up high,
I plucked a bright star from the sky.

I pulled it down in front of me,
And was amazed. What did I see?

There you stood in Heaven's shine.
I had to have you for all mine.

But the thing I did not see,
Is you were not meant just for me.

Heaven gives us stars above,
For all of us to see His love,

A blessing that can't be compared,
A legacy for all to share.

Perhaps someday down to Earth,
You'll fall and there will be rebirth.

And then maybe you'll be mine,
Together 'til the end of time.

But if it never comes that day,
You know I'll love you anyway.

I'll know deep down that you love me,
As twinkling, you wink back... at me.

In the Wind

In wind absorbed like summer rain,
We walk through forest green,
Where the weathered lineage falls,
Fruit of the future tree.

Off in the distance two bluebirds fly,
Sweet melodies they sing,
Rainbow over the bubbling brook,
I wouldn't change a thing.

Hands gently clasped, the crackle of twigs,
Beneath our feet do fall.
And the love we've waited for,
Its moment comes to call.

A moment cast in happiness,
A seed for you and me,
Planted now in such sweet taste,
Fruit of the future tree.

'neath the colours of a perfect sky,
Our touch of warmth and grace,
First smiling kiss a gentle caress,
Lips sweetest to the taste.

Our hearts are filled with love and hope,
No one else can take away.
We pray to Him to guide us through,
And help us stay this way.

Where the weathered lineage falls,
Fruit of the future tree.
In wind absorbed like summer rain,
We walk through forest green.
