Odes, ballads, sextets, free verse and haiku, Have never been a challenge for my pen; But when I read a sonnet proper, true, Escape from rhythm taunts me, once again. How am I to write a proper sonnet, If I can’t hear the rhythm in my head? Imag’ry with frills and lace upon it, Keeps haunting me, but still the meter’s dead. Lord, help me find some way I can control, This sonnephobya torturing my soul. |
