Sonnet XVI

In once upon a time amazing dream,
A vision so surreal and so sublime,
An awe-inspiring moment filled my mind,
Now far away and gone for good it seems,
Envisioning us in our rocking chairs,
Grandchildren bouncing on arthritic knees,
A lilting butterfly on gentle breeze,
Amidst spring’s budding blossoms everywhere.

Perhaps it was just never meant to be,
Our promise for the future couldn’t last,
The distance just too much for you to cope,
We ought to leave the dream back in the past,
And now perhaps you’ve given up all hope,
But my love, how I wish you’d talk to me.
